The improving economy has prompted a higher number of divorces in the country, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, February 18.

In an interview, chief economist of Moody’s Analytics Inc. Mark Zandi stated that an improving economy allows couples who have postponed divorce due to difficult economic times to take action. An adviser to the Federal Reserve Bank and a professor at Marquette University in Milwaukee added that as the economy gets better and home prices are starting to rise, couples who have put-off divorce might finally decide to get a divorce, as dividing the property’s proceeds would give them bigger room to start all over again, this time separately.
