Hollywood stars David Duchovny and Tea Leoni are formally ending their 17-year marriage in a divorce citing “irretrievable breakdown of relationship” as the cause, according to a report by Mail Online on Saturday, August 9.

The two have reportedly agreed to joint legal custody of their 15-year-old daughter, Madelaine West, and 12-year-old son, Kyd Miller. Leoni will take primary physical custody of the children, with Duchovny paying for monthly spousal support and child support at $40,000 and $8,333 respectively. The actor will also reportedly be responsible for other, unspecified expenses such as summer camp, private school, and college.

During their marriage, the couple separated twice, once in 2008 and again in 2011.

American Idol season 5 finalist Katharine McPhee formally ended her six years of marriage with stage producer Nick Cokas, the Daily Mail reported on Thursday, May 22.

After living separately from her 49-year-old husband since last year, McPhee decided to file for a divorce. A publicist of the American singer-songwriter said the two are in good terms, and they request that the public respect their privacy during this time.

McPhee was caught kissing Mary McCormack’s husband, director Michael Morris, last October. The documents detailing McPhee’s separation cleared her name for those who thought she cheated on Cokas, although Morris was not innocent in this regard.

According to assistant professor of sociology in Waco, Texas-based Baylor’s College of Arts and Sciences Jeremy Uecker, who is also the lead author of the study, having divorced parents can cause children to become non-religious.

Uecker said that since a divorced parent may find it uncomfortable to attend church gatherings for fear of being stigmatized, it can cause religion as an experience to not be introduced as central to the life of the child, and thus, the child will not deem it important when he becomes an adult.
